1. Aims and Scope
GERF Bulletin of Biosciences is an official publication of the Green Earth Research Foundation for free global readership. GERF Bulletin of Biosciences is a peer-reviewed international journal devoted to publishing original research articles, review articles, and short communications in the fields of Biological, Chemical, Life, Natural and Clinical sciences. It also publishes case reports and book/software reviews in the above fields. The journal welcomes research papers in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, biotechnology, plant science, pathology, physiology, cancer biology, molecular medicine, bioinformatics, fermentation technology and allied topics. The journal through its publishing attempts to increase understanding of life at the cellular and molecular levels and aims to encourage interdisciplinary publications.
2. Terms for publication
- The author guarantees that the work submitted to the journal has not been submitted elsewhere for publishing, either completely, in part, or in any other form.
- The authors’ are advised to obtain copyright permissions for reproducing figures, tables, or text from respective publisher(s) of any other published work that they are using in their work. GERF Bulletin of Biosciences does not take any such responsibility.
- The submitting author must certify that all co-authors have seen the draft copy of the submitted manuscript and have agreed for its publication.
- Upon acceptance of the manuscript by GERF Bulletin of Biosciences, the authors are required to submit “Copyright Transfer Agreement Form” with signatures of all the authors or corresponding author on behalf of co-authors to the Editorial Office. This is a mandatory copyright form and can be directly downloaded from the journal’s website.
- The manuscript will be published only after payment of publication fees.
- Author(s) warrants and represents the originality of his works and should not infringe copyright or violate laws related to scientific research publishing/journalism.
- GERF Bulletin of Biosciences does not hold any responsibility for breach of copyright infringements.
- Authors may suggest up to five potential referees (with minimum three compulsory), including their e-mail addresses, phone numbers and affiliations, as well as individuals whom they wish to be excluded from the review process.
- Following publication, the manuscripts will be kept with GERF Bulletin of Biosciences..
- After acceptance of a paper, changes or additions to the manuscript and its data are not allowed.
- GERF Bulletin of Biosciences does not hold the responsibility for the factual accuracy of the given information.
- Errors in published papers must be submitted directly to GERF Bulletin of Biosciences and will be included as Errata in the subsequent issue.
Authors are requested to follow these instructions carefully. Manuscripts as per the instructions outlined above will be accepted. Please enclose a covering letter for your manuscript.
3. Cover Letter
The cover letter must include:
- Consent of all authors regarding manuscript submission.
- Certificate of originality (i.e. the submitted work has not been communicated elsewhere for publishing either completely, in-part, or in other form).
- In case of research papers dealing with animal and human studies, authors should enclose a certificate of permission obtained from their respective national or local competent authorities as per the rules and regulations followed in their country.
4. Details regarding number of pages of manuscript, figures, graphs and tables.
4. Guidelines for manuscript preparation
Only manuscripts written in English are acceptable. Author(s) are advised to use simple language. Avoid official sounding words, unscientific jargon, idioms, phrases and words of uncommon usage. Authors are advised to check the grammar, language and technical details of the manuscript prior to submission. The manuscripts must be in MS-word text format, in Times New Roman of 12 font size, and double spaced. Check manuscript with track change option word processor before submission. Figures, photographs and graphs must be in high resolution JPEG format (above 300 dpi or ppi). After reviewing, the Editor-in-Chief will inform the corresponding author about the status of acceptance or revision.
Full Paper: Research articles should not exceed 15 pages of printed text, including references, tables and figures. Manuscript should be organized in the following order:
- Title, Author(s) and their Affiliation(s) (if the senior author is not the corresponding order, this is indicated * sign),
- Key words,
- Materials and Methods,
- Results and Discussion,
- Acknowledgements and
- Tables and figures (3-4 numbers each but not more than 8 in total) should be included at the end of the text.
Short communications:Short communications include pilot studies, exploratory investigations, novel methods, new techniques and epidemiological studies. It should not exceed 5 pages along with tables and figures.
Full length review:The reviews should not exceed 20 pages of printed text, including references, tables and figures (same instructions as for Full paper).
Mini-review: It should not exceed 5 pages along with tables, figures and references.
Case Reports:Case reports may include clinical trials, evaluation experiments, summary of participatory approaches, remedies and solutions to problems. It should not exceed 3 pages of printed text with relevant authentic information.
Book/Software reviews: The reviews may be critical and not exceeding 1-2 pages of printed text.
Title: The title page should include full, informative, concise and self descriptive title, along with the name(s) of the author(s), their affiliation, e-mail addresses, telephone and fax number of the corresponding author.
Abstract:Please provide a structured abstract of 150 to 200 words for Research/Review Articles, briefly stating the significance, implication and salient achievements of the investigation made. For Short communications provide an abstract of 75 to 100 words. Please note that the abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations.
Keywords: Provide a minimum of 4 and (but not more than 6) keywords.
Abbreviations:Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consecutively thereafter.
Introduction:It must be written in 500 words comprising of 2-3 paragraphs. Introduction section should envisage the significance of the research problem and highlight the related research efforts in this field with relevant latest references. It should not be a mere review of the subject area, instead should focus on the severity of the problem and the efforts in this line to get probable solutions by other research groups. It should not include any salient findings of the study.
Materials and methods: This section should clearly provide detailed information of the protocols adopted, experiment design used, model systems, modifications made in procedures stating the references to facilitate transferability and adoptability of methods among laboratories. In case of standard procedures, there is no need to give complete protocol. Instead, only reference needs to be cited. For example, Lowry et al. (1951) is a well known procedure for protein estimation and this reference needs no description. In experiments dealing with clinical evaluation trails, LD50 values of the drugs and chemicals used should be mentioned wherever necessary. Toxicity levels of the chemical may also be notified.
Results and Discussion: This section should contain full comprehension of the data reported in figures and tables. The authors are advised to restrict this section with minimum number of figures, tables and graphs in proper formats. Discussion section must emphasize the significance of results. It should be properly substantiated in the context of previous research findings and not be mere comparative statements of the previous reports. For example, “our results are on par with ---“, “similar results have been earlier been reported by ------“, etc. They provide no scientific meaning and hence, must be avoided. Probable reasons for the shortcomings or positive results should be explored and presented clearly.
Conclusion: This section should contain concluding remark(s) in about 10 lines, highlight the overall implication of salient findings of the research problem, its possible solutions or suggesting future lines of work.
Acknowledgements: Acknowledgments of people, funding agencies, etc. should be placed under this section.
References should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Citations in the text should be given by name such as According to James (1973); George, 1993; (Smith, 1987a, b); Murashige T and Skoog F, 1962 or Pati et al., 2008 etc. References should be alphabetically ordered year wise and numbered consecutively.
Use the following format for references:

Tables, Figures and Graphs:
Provide a proper title or heading for each tables and figures. Give captions or legends explaining the result indicated in the figures. State at the bottom of the table, whether the data given in the table is statistically analysed and found significant. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or by using asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included beneath the table body. Number the figures and tables consecutively as Fig.1, Fig. 2.....etc. for figures and Table.1, Table. 2......etc. for tables.
Scientific names in italics should be provided within parentheses after common names.
Generic names of drugs and chemicals are preferred; if trade names are used, the generic name must be given in parentheses.
Scientific names, abbreviations like et al.., i.e., via, viz , etc. should be italized.
If chemical structures or structural formulae are to be included in the manuscript, then it must be inserted as picture file or image format in the manuscript at proper positions.
Please use the standard mathematical notation for formulae and symbols.
Please use the International System of Units (SI).
5. Manuscript submission
Please read carefully the instructions to authors before submitting your manuscript. The manuscript files should be given the last name of the first author.

We request the authors to submit the publication fees within 15 days of acceptance in order to avoid delays in the online publication.
